Four students placed in state DECA competition at Newman University on Oct. 25.
DECA is an organization that prepares students for future careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. The organization has been helping high school and college students for nearly 70 years. Many students find DECA to be inspiring and helpful for their future.
“I was really excited when I found out that I won. I have been in DECA for a couple years so finally winning was very satisfying,” Nora Edith said. “I would definitely do it again; it is always a good, fun time.”
Each student who attended the DECA competition received a role play assignment and had to perform it in front of a judge. The students had 10 minutes to read over the scenario and think of ideas on how to address the problems. After the role play, students took a test in their category. There were over 10 different categories in areas like Sports Marketing, Apparel and Accessories, Food Marketing, and Restaurant Management.
“I was super surprised to have placed second in my category. It was my first time and I didn’t think I did very well,” Shelby Wears said.
