The boys swimming team made a huge change to the record board at North. Friday February 2nd, the 16-year-old 200 freestyle relay was broken.
DJ Fowler, Rylan Rafferty, Flint Tipton, and Kale Werth swam a 1:32.80. They became City League Champions that night for the relay. The team broke their own record two weeks later at the State meet with a time of 1:32:69.
“I remember looking at the board and thinking how fast I would have to go to make even my part of the time and thinking it was crazy. So, when we broke it at city league, I was so so happy. I was a little emotional knowing it was my last true meet with my team. But when I saw that time, it made all the work worth it,” Rylan Rafferty said.
“Knowing you are so close to having a school record is definitely challenging when you don’t break it but when we broke it, I wasn’t eve focused on the record, I just wanted to win which we did. When I looked at the record, I didn’t believe at first and I have to give all thanks to God for allowing me to wake up that morning and swim,” DJ Fowler said.
