Sandra Sanchez runs the Pando program at North. The Pando program has provided a very helpful community fridge. This fridge has been a successful part of the program. The fridge provides all kinds of cold food, non-perishables, and hygienic products.
A program that North has worked with in the pasted called Empty Bowls Wichita. Empty Bowls Wichita was very generous in donating two $500 gifts cards; one to Aldi and the other to Dillions, totaling $1,000.
Empty Bowls is a program that fights food insecurities in Wichita. Executive Director of Empty Bowls Brenda Lichman was one person who awards Ms. Sanchez with the money. The money they raise through Empty Bowls, get to be put back into programs that help with food struggles such as the community fridge.
“We believe the fridge is a very helpful thing for students in high school and every day. We would really like to support those who make that initiative,” Lichman said.
North High is not the only place to receive a generous donation from Empty Bowls Wichita. Humankind Ministries received $10,000 to continue feeding the homeless. The North High Community fridge has become the most active in USD 259.
