The Crisis of MH370

On March 8, communication was lost with Flight 370 heading from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The 240-foot plane, carrying 239 passengers, has been lost ever since then. Officials have determined that flight did change direction and started heading south west from its original flight path. Some believed that the plane was hijacked or that this was an act of terrorism but now it is believed that one of the pilots may have gone rogue. The Malaysian government has been looking into the lives of the pilots and all passengers that were on board. So far nothing has turned up. Meanwhile, relatives of passengers on board are angry with the assumptions and poor lack of communication of the Malaysian government. They released a statement saying “We have to assume beyond any reasonable that MH370 has been lost and that no one aboard survived”, though with no physical evidence and no sign of the lost plane, everyone is still not giving up hope. Dedications have been made for the safe return of the passengers on Flight 370.

The search for Flight 370 has been tedious and long. So far Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, South Korea, and the United States have joined the search for the missing plane. Black box detectors have been used to scour the ocean, listening for the ping from the plane’s black box, which is the only thing that can explain this anomaly, but so far nothing has been seen or heard. Black box pingers only have a battery life of 30 days, leaving only a few days left before the plane may be lost forever. Satellites have been searching the ocean surface for pieces of wreckage. Pieces of “reasonable” size were spotted, but upon further inspection they did not belong to the plane.

This mystery leaves a lot of speculation and questions without any answers . Why did the Malaysian government wait eight days to look into the lives of the pilots? Why did it take almost a week for them to release any real information to the public? Why did they not bring out a black box detector until halfway through their search? How does a large plane just vanish off the face of the Earth without a single trace? We can look at the surface of the moon and take pictures of Mars and find almost anyone in the world at any time, but we cannot find a 240-foot plane. With almost a month passed since the plane went missing, hope of solving this mystery is dwindling.
