Turkey Drive Gobbling Back

Alejandra Pichardo and Angel Martinez

Wichita Public Schools will participate in the turkey drive that is done every year for a non-profit organization which supplies Thanksgiving turkeys and other food for families. The drive starts on North tomorrow, Nov. 1st. The district will be collecting donations on Friday from 7-9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18th. Donations will be collected at Alvin Morris Administrative Center at 201 N. Water. Volunteers and JROTC cadets will be standing along Water street to take frozen turkeys, canned goods, or money. Last year they collected almost 3,500 turkeys and more than 15,300 other items and also around $11,800 in donations. High schools in particular have competitions to see who can collect the most turkeys or pounds of food. Parents who would like to contribute as well can take the donations to the district’s downtown headquarters on Friday. Participants can share their turkey photos and comments on social media using the hashtag #gobbleICT.
