A Cure for Wellness

‘A Cure for Wellness’ was released in theaters on February 17th. Starring Dane DeHaan, this thrillingly mysterious movie is being described as “weird” by anyone who goes to see it. The general synopsis of the movie is about how a young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious “wellness center” at an isolated location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same illness that keeps all the guests there longing for the cure. The film is rated R due to violent content, sexual content, nudity, and language; be wary about going to see it with younger children or family members.

It runs at 2 hours and 35 minutes and had an estimated budget of $40,000,000, earning $5,004,463 opening weekend. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 40% of critics liked the movie and 47% of audience liked it. I went to see it with a couple of friends over the weekend and although there were scenes where I felt rather uncomfortable, the film was extremely interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
