Open Street 2019

Since 2017 Open Streets ICT has been closing streets in Wichita in an effort to promote physical activity. This ranges from biking, walking, to things like dancing and yoga. On September 22nd this year, Douglas Avenue was closed. It was shut down from Bluff Street in College Hill all the way down to Glenn Street in the Delano district.

It’s a completely free event to the public. Enjoy activities such as live music and performances by Sunshine trucking and dancing performances and lot’s of family activities.

Cycling is heavily encouraged by the Cities bike share system. The Scooter share system is, however, not allowed due to being in close proximity with pedestrians.

In the attached Video you can see a cyclist going through Douglas.

Joe Blake enjoyed the event. “I heard about it from a friend and also on Instagram. I just walked around and hung out at the skate demo. I’d go again whenever they have it,” said Blake.
