Return of the Scrunchie

Welcome back to 1994. The scrunchie is taking back its ponytail throne as a refreshed accessory coming in a variety of colors, sizes, and materials. Scrunchies are becoming increasingly popular and are widely available from multiple retailers. Amazon even sells a pack of 40 for $6.99. So, what’s the hype?

“I’ve been wearing them for a while because they’re way less harsh on textured hair,” North High Senior Melissa Ornelas said.

North High Senior Isabel Fuentes said,  “I heard it was way healthier for your hair and they definitely give your outfit a little zing!”

Sadie Bakeberg, a North High Senior, keeps it simple, “no hair tie, no headaches.”

Not only do the scrunchies cause less hair breakage and no painful side effects of wearing your hair up, they can be worn other ways. North High Senior Tate Miller explains, “I like having scrunchies as an accessory more than using it for its purpose. It ties in the colors for some outfits but having one in my hair and on my wrist is too much.”

No matter your purpose for participating in the trend, I think we are all in agreeance that scrunchies could take on hair ties any day of the week.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go put on Full House and plan my next Amazon order.
