Willams, late pick lead North in win

The football team took the excitement and momentum from last Thursday’s win against South and continued it in Liberal.

Junior Joe Williams rushed for 187 yards and one touchdown and threw for another score, as the Redskins held on after a frantic final minute for a 13-6 win at Liberal.

After Williams put North up by two scores with a 75-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, Liberal scored with 10 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 8.

Liberal then recovered an onside kick which made for one more shot at the end zone.

However, Keymani Thomas intercepted the pass to seal the win.

“Joe Williams was one player who stood out as usual, we as a team played really well defensively wise and there’s some adjustments we will have to contribute to on the offensive side of our game,” Coach Scott Moshier said.

North will take its 2-0 record to Heights next week as they take on Southeast on Friday.

“Kids are starting to buy in that they’re 2-0,” Moshier said. “It’s about time these kids got rewarded for the amount of time they’ve put into this program.”
