North High Bio-Med Showcase

The North High Bio-Med program recently had their annual showcase. This year’s focus was on mental health. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors participated. They conducted research on certain areas of mental health.

Ms. Riley, head of the Bio-med program, explained this year’s topic.

“The focus this year was health disparities and mental health,” Ms. Riley said.

Sadie Millard, Sophomore, was in a group with two other students. Their group focused on teen drug use and its effects on society.

“Our poster was about teens and drug usage”, said Millard, “how it effects them and how drug education programs actually push kids to do drugs.”

The students did extensive research into the types of drugs teenagers nowadays use the most. Their research revealed a lot about what drugs teenagers are taking/doing today.

“The top four drugs teens are using are alcohol, marijuana, steroids, and prescription drugs” Sadie said.

Chemistry teacher, Andrew Kelderman graded the Bio-Med presentations. He explained how these presentations can impact the community.

“The whole purpose of this is to bring attention to these issues” Kelderman said.

“If someone from the general public walks in right now, they can learn more about that particular element.” hi hi hi hi
