Scholars Bowl Season

For those who haven’t heard, it’s Scholars Bowl season.

If you’ve never heard of Scholars Bowl, it’s basically Norths equivalent to “Mean Girls” so called “Mathelets”,except, it’s more than that.

It’s an academic competition where two teams go head to head in answering questions. There are 12-16 questions asked in total. The questions are over all the subjects taught.

“It’s really fun and you learn a lot,” said Velya Randolph, the head coach. She was assistant coach until the previous coach retired and passed it on to her.

The teams practice every advocacy and ask questions to prepare. They are also taught different kinds of strategies for buzzing in. The teams move on to more challenging meets as they go. Meets happen about twice a month.

Andrew McCoskey, who was in Scholars Bowl at North, and now the assistant coach said, “It’s an opportunity for students to be involved.” Not everyone is great at sports so it’s a good way for students who have a strength in academics to be involved.”

The season starts mid-October and falls into the first week of February. Anyone can join, just see one of the coaches in A301 or B301. “Just come and try it!” said McCoskey.
