Improv

Jessica Williams is North’s Improv club sponsor and has been since four years ago when it started. Mrs. Williams took the position because she “likes to see kids step into leadership roles” and at her high school there was an “amazing” improv club. According to Mrs. Williams, being club sponsor entails “laughing at [club members] jokes,” letting them know when it goes to far, and getting the word out when they have events.

Mrs. Williams said over the years leadership roles have come into play and now students have occasional homework to find games to integrate into their shows.

For Mrs. Williams one of the best parts of the job is when parents thank her for getting their child to be enthusiastic over something. She’s been thanked by parents for “giving their kids a reason to come to school on Friday’s.” Mrs. Williams finds it rewarding to “ help kids find their place in the scene of things.”

Finn Eichbauer, a freshman this year said improv has allowed him to “meet more people and branch out.”

Finn’s favorite part is “the creative aspect of it”; freshman Sammuel Kelly’s favorite part is “doing stupid stuff and laughing about it”. According to Finn the only downside is coping with stage fright.

“Anyone can join improve”, said Mrs. Williams “it is a fun inclusive place for anyone and everyone”. Improv club meets on Fridays at lunch in F107. Anyone is welcome to come and take part in the acting or just observe for a laugh.
