Market Day is here
October 16, 2017
North High’s annual market day is bringing a wide variety of foods to the lawn. Market Day is provided and done by The Youth Entrepreneurs class. Food will be sold on the lawn on days Thursday the 12th and Friday the 13th, and the following week, Wednesday the 18th and Thursday the 19th.
Matt Silverthorne and Jon Berseth are the teachers behind Market Day. Wide variety of foods ranging from Barbecue to freshly made smoothies are being sold.
Students begin the process by creating a business plan. Time, cost and management is all put into thought. Asking Silverthorne what is the biggest challenge for kids, he said “ the question is, can they take what they wrote on paper and make it happen.”
Market day is a great experience for students to learn and get a good feel of what running a business is like. In less than an hour, students get to see as much as they can and earn as much as they can shows the students running a business is not always easy. Every market day, “there’s always a lot of surprises,” Silverthorne said.
