Jana’s Story

Ami Kurtz, Reporter

For each minute that passes, 20 people per minute experience physical abuse by their partner. Christie and Curt Brungardt came to North to speak about their experience with domestic violence. Mr. & Mrs. Brungardt have a daughter named Jana. Jana was brutally beaten and killed by her ex-boyfriend.  “The way we see it, we have two choices: we can either grieve, or we can grieve and act. We chose the latter,” Curt and Christie Brungardt said. Christie and Curt wanted to travel to let others know that abuse can happen to anyone. The couple came to let the students know that there are people to talk to and also all of the red flags you should be aware of in a relationship. Both men and women can be physically and mentally abused. They also have a campaign for Jana. They also made a campaign for Jana. Their website, http://www.janascampaign.org/, talks about how and where to take action about abuse. You can also donate to their organization.
