Earthquake Drills In Wichita Public Schools

April Draut, Reporter

Tuesday October 25 Wichita schools had an earthquake drill due to the rise in earthquake threats in Kansas over the past two years. The students watched a video to demonstrate how the drill would work and the practiced it. The students were instructed to sit on the floor under their desks. North High Principle Padgett believes the earthquakes are due to fracking in Oklahoma.

“It shakes me up,” Padgett said.

Assistant principal E.J. Santos-Silva believes it is a necessary precaution.

“Earthquakes are becoming more common in Kansas,” he said.

No matter what the reason the idea to have earthquake drills is becoming more useful in Kansas.
