Tornado drill exceeds expectations

On Tuesday the 19th North High had its first tornado drill of the year. All the students and staff were dismissed by floors starting with first floor instead of everyone coming at once. The drilled moved smoothly and fast making it the fastest tornado drill North High has had in years. Last school year the drill would take up to ten minutes just to get everyone down and another 10 to get everyone in.

The drill has lead many teachers questioning if we had a actual drill what would happen, is dismissing from first floor to third the safest option for the students. Claudio Flores, Assistant Principal of Academy 1 is in charge of the tornado drill and was asked a few questions about the issue.

Flores explained “There is 2 scenarios, the first one where we have time. When we have some time before the tornado comes the school will dismiss by floors starting with first and ending with third floor. When the school doesn’t get a warning about the tornado and is ten minute’s away or closer we will all be dismissed at once and all come at the same time.”

In the spring Mr. Flores said he will email all teachers that North will have another drill with scenario two where all floors dismiss at once but will have some differences. Teachers be in the middle directing all the students into two lines to get into the either shelter.
