With the 2021-2022 swim season coming to a quick end it is time to take a look at all the accomplishments and achievements that have happened. The girls are grateful to have Coach Melody Turley getting them to where they are right now. The swimmers are on their way to a great ending for a season with the Class 6A meet being less than a month away.

“For it being my first year, I am feeling really good about the season! I’ve made really good progress, more than I was expecting,” said Alayna Welch,  North’s only senior on the swim team this year. She has fulfilled her senior year, she said,  “I wouldn’t want it any other way.” Alayna couldn’t say her favorite memory because the whole season has been such an experience. “Everyone is super nice, accepting and pretty much a second family.” Senior Night is April 28th. We will be celebrating our own.

With the small accomplishments such as Anais Tucker learning how to do flip turns or Ellie Graber cutting seven seconds in the the 100 breaststroke. To the big accomplishments such as Cora Dagget getting her state qualification time in the 50 freestyle and going under one minute in the 100 freestyle. The girls have made many memories this season and will be holding onto them for a long time.

One of the most common memories all the ladies are holding onto is the first pep assembly of the year. They all said how grateful and lucky they were to be able to have that experience together and they can’t wait for more in the future.

State is right around the corner. The team has one state qualifying relay, the 200 medley relay consists of; Marie Loest, Raimi Huggins, Cora Dagget, and Sophia Rice. Those girls will be in Lenexa, Kansas representing North High in less than a month. Two swimmers are less than a second away from qualifying for state in their own individual events. Marie Loest is going after the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

Before state there is City League, a meet where North High will be competing against all the other schools in Wichita. Friday, May 6th, is when the girls will be representing the school. The swim season is close to the end. The girls have made the 2021-2022 season one to remember.
