First Meet of the Scholars Bowl Season

Maleah Evans and Isabel Paez

The first meet of the Scholars Bowl 2021-2022 season was on October 30th at East High School. Rounds started at 9:30 a.m. The team started off their season strong by winning four rounds out of six. They advanced from rounds to brackets but ended up not advancing past quarterfinals. Present at this tournament were team captain Allie Waldt, Maleah Evans, Isabel Paez, Ryan Perrault, Maely Hansen, and Marcos Montanez.

Assistant coach Riley oversaw the team at the tournament. “I was really pleased at how well we’re already playing as a team.” She stated. “I’m looking forward to the meet in which the kids totally rock it and we’re on fire.”

Coach Riley has very high hope’s for this year’s Varsity team. “My goal is that our team make it to state this year, and I think we have a good chance of doing that.”

The Scholar’s Bowl team still has quite a few tournaments left in the season before seeing if they qualify for state, but the team is quite optimistic and are working very hard to make both Coach McCoskey and Coach Riley’s dream a reality.

Another major goal for everyone on the team is to recruit more players since most of the current team are seniors. “I would really like to build the team for next year,” Riley told us. “Students can still join, if their interested. They can go to Coach McCoskey’s room in A301, or I in room C208.”
