The boys soccer team started the 2021 season with high expectations. The team returned a lot of experience, and so far, it’s showed. North has raced out to a 3-0 start and will play defending Class 6A champion Dodge City in the Titan Classic on Saturday at South.

North started the Titan Classic on Monday against Maize High School. The final score was 2-1. Goals were scored by Arturo Veliz and Uriel Aguilera-Fernandez. The game was really intense from start to finish. Many cards were shown and the whole Norths midfield got yellow cards. One of the captains Zahid Hernandez got injured in the end of the second half.

The second game was Thursday against East high school. North and East have a had a rivalry for many years. They beat east for the first time in 3 years. With a final score of 5-0. Goals were scored by Emiliano Gallo, Alvaro Quezada, Sergio Najera, and Uriel Aguilera-Fernandez.

“We’re able to communicate. We’ve played together for four years and we know how each other move. When we get pressure from the forwards, we absorb it really well,” Senior goalie Jesse Ortiz said. “As soon as they get the ball, we put pressure on them right away.”

Coach Wullschleger said ” The team has many strengths. whether we grind out a close game though domination of possession or overwhelm the opponent with constant ball movement and dynamic runners creating goal scoring opportunities we feel we can win a variety of ways.”

Wullschleger is excited for the opportunity to play against the defending state champs.

“We match up well, have similar styles, and it should prove to be an entertaining soccer match Saturday at 3:00 on the turf at South High,” he said.
