NHS Food Bank Field Trip

Grace Claudio and Wendy Martinez

On Monday the national honor society took another field trip to the food bank. Every NHS chapter in the country is required to have one Chapter Service Project each year. The NHS officer team discussed several opportunities, but decided that volunteering at the Food Bank would be their Chapter Service Project this year. Those at the Food Bank were very grateful for the volunteers help for the day, it saved them a lot of time. When we asked Ms. Dean, leader of the National Honor Society, about how she felt the students perspective changed she stated “Yes, their perspectives changed. Many students weren’t aware of how the Food Bank operated or what kinds of things they did. They were also surprised at the scale of food distribution. On our most recent trip we packed about a dozen pallets of canned goods, juice, milk, and crackers that will be used for the Food For Kids program; all of which will be used over the next few weeks.” They take about 25 students each time and you must be apart of NHS to go on the trip. Their next and final trip is on March 26,2020.
