College Application Month
October 10, 2018
October is “College Application Month” for high school seniors across the state of Kansas. This is an opportunity for seniors to apply for colleges early in their senior year.
Applying to college is the first step towards a better future. For most students, applying to college can be very overwhelming, especially students who are the first in their family to attend college or students who have not yet planned out what they want to do after high school.
“Apply Kansas” was launched in 2015 as part of the American College Application Campaign. This initiative is being coordinated by a statewide steering committee organized by the Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers. Its purpose is to encourage students to apply for college early in the year by taking advantage of the assistance provided. The goal for this initiative is to see a growth of students applying early in the year, with a focus on students from low income families, and first-generation students.
Last year over 40 schools hosted events for apply Kansas. Over 3,000 students participated and over 5,000 applications were submitted. There is a steady increase in the participation of “Apply Kansas”. In 2015, only 11 schools participated with only 1,500 students submitting applications with a grand total of 2,273 applications submitted.
North High is one of many schools participating in”Apply Kansas” this year. Seniors are getting a chance to submit an application to any college of their choice, including all the public universities, community colleges and technical colleges, as well as all independent colleges. Senior English teachers have been taking their classes to the library to participate.
