Finally.

Thursday night, the football team ended a 21-game losing streak, defeating the South Titans 29-22.

The Redskins were led by Junior QB/RB Joe Williams lll, who finished the night with rushing for 300 yards, averaging 10.7 yards per carry on 28 rush attempts and throwing for a total of 13 yards on 2 pass attempts.

North went 14 years without obtaining a victory on opening week, going back to 2004.

“It felt pretty good to break our 21-game losing streak, “Williams said.

One of the team’s goals to start the year was to have a winning record. According to Williams, this was the start they needed to reach that goal.

“Our team goal for the 2018-19 season is to have a record above .500 and to make the playoffs and win at least one playoff game,” Williams said. “We felt like Thursday night’s game gave us momentum to know how it feels like to be in a playoff type environment.”

North plays again on Friday at 7 p.m. at Liberal.
