The Shape of Water is a perfect film for those capable of falling into the spell Director Guillermo del Toro is casting. The Shape of Water is a breathless film. It is about longing for connection, and fierce defiance displayed by the main character when the things she loves are threatened. When I first watched the movie trailer I was puzzled. It was essentially a movie about a someone falling in love with a mermaid  – which is something in cinema we don’t see very often (unless of course you count The Little Mermaid, which most wouldn’t.)

The movie got a lot of hype before the release, and clearly for a reason. The movie received a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, As well as a 87% on metacritic both popular movie related sites. Despite the good reviews and my personal opinion, I would not suggest this movie to everyone, only to those who are in for a different but still very romantic movie.
