Serves Up: The New Era of Volleyball

North has hired a new volleyball coach.

Math teacher Jessica Keys has been tabbed to replace Adrienn Amarro, who left in November to take a job at a junior college in Texas.

Keys played volleyball at Wichita State University however, she originally was recruited to play volleyball and run track at the University of North Carolina. However, that was to far from home for her and her family could only attend a couple of games.

“It was sheer luck that I landed at North,” Keys said. She had called an old friend saying she would like to go back to the Wichita Public Schools area, and her friend requested that she would love North High.

“I have come to the conclusion that I love diversity and having relationships with the students who really need me to help them. That’s why I teach,” Keys said.

There is a lot to expect from Coach Keys. She is tough and wants her players to be tough as well. She has a strong work ethic and wants to pass it on to the players.

“If you work hard then you DESERVE to win, it is not by accident, you have to make it happen,” Keys said.

The style of practice she will be bringing is from being a college athlete and hopefully will promote competition.

Keys will expect a lot from her players, to be a good model in and out of the classroom and when you are one of her girls, you are a reflection of the team.
