Engineering students create a memorable moment

The Engineering program at North partnered with WSU Tech and Go Baby Go to create a little car for Victoria. Victoria is a 3-year-old who has down syndrome.

5 students – Zavion, Mia, Ricardo, Benjamin, Genesis, and Betsy collectively built a car just for Victoria. They had to modify it in many ways to make it easier for her to use.

For example, there is a big red button on the middle of the steering wheel for her to push to make the car move forward. There is a kill switch in the back just in case anything goes wrong.  Her mother has a remote to control the direction of the car.

Victoria lacks fine motor skills compared other kids, the button in the middle will teach her how to move the car on her own. These students worked for months to see the reaction of this little girl.

“We started in January right after winter break. We all had to apply for the one we wanted. It feels rewarding to see all of our hard work paying off,” Mia Cruz said.
