“Its Kind Of A Funny Story” Review

Jordan Shull, Reporter

“Its Kind Of A Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini was one of the most eye-opening books that I have ever read. It starts with 15-year old Craig Gilner getting admitted into Executive Pre-Professional High School and he starts getting overwhelmed by the schools pressure and the fact that he doesn’t feel like he fits in. Craig decides to talk to a psychiatrist who gives him Zoloft for his depression and anxiety. Craig feels better after a while then proceeds to throw them away resulting in his depression and anxiety to come back stronger than before. Craig then calls 1-800-SUICIDE and is soon admitted into a psychiatric hospital. Craig claims that there has been a mistake and that he doesn’t belong in the “looney bin” then soon starts getting comfortable meeting the patients. Craig then meets Noelle who helps him regain his health. Craig ends up taking an interest in art because it makes him feel better and he wishes to pursue a career in art. Craig soon gets out of the psychiatric hospital with a new look on life and he starts to appreciate the little things.
