Life As A Small Business Owner

Cicely Garcia, Writer

2021 tax filing season officially begins on February 12th and clients are have already started booking appointments to meet with with their accountant and/or bookkeeper. Filing your taxes is very important because it helps determine whether you owe additional taxes beyond what you’ve already paid (you need to pay more money), or if you’re owed a refund of the taxes that have been withheld (you will be given money).

According to the small business owner of Garcia Consulting in Park City, KS, Judy Garcia spends a fair amount of her day sitting down at her computer and helping her clients with any questions they may have when it comes to filing their taxes. She is very helpful when it comes to employed clients of different age groups ranging from ambitious teenagers all the way to wise elders.

“I always liked working with numbers and budgets, but I first got into accounting and bookkeeping because my father was an accountant, so I was already familiar with that type of work. I first started my business when one of my good friends opened up her restaurant in 1998. My friend asked if I could handle the books and payroll for her and I have been doing it ever since,” said Garcia.

Garcia was able to bring in even more clients that owned their own small to medium sized businesses. Judy said she enjoys that she owns her own business and office and enjoys that she can work the hours she wants.

“I also like that with this line of business, you can work remotely. I also enjoy that during the summertime, I usually work from our RV while we’re at the lake”.
